I know most of the meanings and reasons behind bingo number calls but have always been confused about number 9, can anybody tell me why number 9 is "Doctors Orders".

Hi Simone,

nice question. There have been many interpretations of the bingo number calls over the years, and some change as time goes by. With regards to Number 9 and Doctors Orders my belief is as follows.

Army doctors gave out laxatives to soldiers during the first world war and the pill was known as "number 9".

I hope this is correct. If anyone knows any other reasonable explanation please post here.
